PEGGY TAYLOR REID
(Re)pair
OCTOBER 03 TO 27, 2018
Reception: Friday, October 19, 6 - 8 PM
The Red Head Gallery is pleased to present (re)pair, an exhibition by artist, Peggy Taylor Reid.
re·pair
- fix or mend (a thing suffering from damage or a fault)
pair
- two similar or associated things; a partnership
(re)pair is a pairing of early and recent work and focuses on the passage of time. It is a reflection on the beauty of impermanence and the transitory nature of our state of being. The changes that occur in our lives can be gradual, or catastrophic. The exhibition brings together work from 2003 to 2018. Terra Incognita (2004-5) is an extended, woven photo-montage, journaling the geography of Taylor Reid’s childhood, a river both physically and metaphorically. Best Before (2003) is an unflinching gaze at the changing geography of her own body, a grid of micro-photographs overlain with “best before’ dates from consumer products. Self Portraits (2016-2018) chronicles two connected journeys from traumatic injury to healing. They witness a shift that is both physical and perceptual.
The work Taylor Reid is showing in (re)pair touches on different aspects of self-reflection in a state of change, and the acceptance of the notion of impermanence.
