BREACH: MOMENTS IN FLUX

By Guest Artists
Breanna Gordon & Rachel Sardella

Exhibition Dates: July 24 - 27
Opening Reception: Thursday, July 25, 6-8pm

BREACH: Moments in Flux intersects two unique approaches to traditional oil painting, that are unified by themes of human nature, liminality and the passage of time. On an aesthetic level, the work is a juxtaposition of realism and abstracted forms that converge in unexpected ways. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, both in human form and in landscape, the viewer is invited to question their perceptions of existence based on their familiarity with these elements as an entry point for the work.

Rachel Sardella Bio

Rachel graduated with honors from Queen’s University with specifications in Oil painting and Printmaking. She then went on to study Graphic Design at Humber College, achieving design awards such as the Art Jam 2021. She has worked in art and design institutions for over 6 years and has exhibited and sold works across North America.

Rachel's art is deeply influenced by organic architecture, exploring the seamless integration of human structures with the natural world. Drawing inspiration from nature's organic lines and fluid forms, she seeks to convey a harmonious balance between human intervention and the environment to create dreamlike landscapes. Central to her work is an exploration of time's transient nature and the fleeting essence of perceptual moments. Rachel employs a meticulous process of cutting and layering natural materials such as wood, paper or fabric. Assembled, these elements create a unified whole, metaphorically representing the ephemeral yet enduring moments shaping our lives. Rachel's pieces serve as a meditation on the interconnectedness of nature, architecture, and time. Through the juxtaposition of oil painting and manipulation of natural materials, she prompts viewers to reflect on the evolving relationship between our constructed world and the organic beauty that surrounds us.

Breanna Gordon Bio

Breanna’s work is rooted in the exploration of realism and her interest in rendering the human figure with a likeness to nature. Heavily informed by European historical painting, she merges the melodrama of the Italian Baroque with the Pre-Raphaelite sense of ethereality to create compositions that blur the line between reality and a dreamlike state. Addressing concepts such as empathy, liminality and the passage of time, she describes the feeling of perpetual anxiety through overwhelmingly busy compositions that see her subjects lost within intricate, layered patterns.

Breanna graduated with distinction from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2020. In the following years she pursued a Masters of Fine Art in Painting at the University of the Arts London in 2023, where she was awarded the International Postgraduate Scholarship. While living in the UK she was selected to participate in the London Art Biennale where she won the Chianciano Museum Award. Her painting will be exhibited in the Chianciano Biennale in Tuscany in the summer of 2024.

Breanna has been exhibiting her paintings for 7 years, participating in group shows in Canada and internationally. Her recent work has gained recognition through awards, nominations and becoming the acquisitions of private collectors.
