Holding FOR a better tomorrow

The Red Head Gallery is pleased to present Holding for a better tomorrow Sangmin Lee’s first exhibition at the gallery.
This exhibition draws from an ongoing collection of objects accumulated from Lee’s studio practice and daily life. They are fragments of narratives within larger systems; leftovers, experiments, translations, and deconstructions/reconstructions, to pieces that make home and urban life.
Together, these narrative fragments act as points to create a constellation of objects that allow new stories to emerge—where progress is not linear and one is not without the other, somewhere between the process of becoming and entropy, of holding on and letting go.

BIOGRAPHY
Lee is an interdisciplinary artist born and raised in St. James Town (Toronto, ON), the densest high-rise community in Canada. Despite its shortcomings, it is one of the most ethnically rich neighbourhoods in North America and is sometimes known as “the world within a block.” His practice situates somewhere between these concrete enclosures and lived space, between walls of plaster and stories of transition. What does it mean to hold these relationships at once and find moments of stillness? Here, Lee looks to process, the unfixed, the tangential and beyond—to wander peripherally towards expansion.
