Bio
Michelle Winters is a painter and writer from Saint John, N.B., living in Toronto. Her visual work embraces the absurd with deep sincerity and a hedonistic use of colour. Mostly self-taught, she was the winner of the 2017 Artist Project People’s Choice award and received an honorable mention the Visual Arts Mississauga 2019 juried show.
Artist Statement
Michelle’s work explores dynamic and improbable scenes, approaching character and tension with a literary sensibility alongside an exuberance for colour, texture, and the very act of painting.
She writes software instructions for a living and retreats to the reaches of her imagination every spare moment. This is how she mounts her resistance.
