The Red Head Gallery is pleased to present DEPARTURE, an exhibition of digital photo-based prints by Colin Carney. The show runs from January 30th to February 23rd, with an opening reception on Saturday February 2nd, 2 - 4pm.

Carneyʼs first solo exhibition at The Red Head Gallery, DEPARTURE, references Di Chiricoʼs 1916 painting “The Melancholy of Departure”. A key feature of Carneyʼs work is his layering of digital photographs. His current series focuses on spaces and circumstances which stage moments of everyday departure. These range from the intimacy of an unmade bed to the anonymity of a vaulted train station. Influenced by Di Chirico's metaphysical paintings, Carney is interested in the underlying meaning ascribed by passing through or leaving these circumstances.

Colin Carney is a visual artist based in Guelph, Ontario. His studio practice incorporates digital photography, video, manual printmaking, drawing and painting. He is a member of The Red Head Gallery in Toronto, Ontario and teaches as a sessional studio instructor at Western University in London, Ontario.
